LIKES:
- Percy Jackson
- Her family + friends
- Architecture
- History
- Being in charge
DISLIKES:
- Being talked down too
- Being treated like a child
- Appearing weak and helpless
- Immaturity
- Disrespectful people
STRENGTHS: One of Annabeth's main strengths is her intelligence. Being a daughter of Athena, Annabeth was born with an IQ much higher than most, which she applies to her every day life all the time - both in and out of her training at Camp Half-Blood; she often surprises people with how much wisdom she has for someone so young. She also has a knack for battle strategy, another trait that she inherited from her mother; she can come up with an effective plan of action within minutes, and they never fail unless someone (like Percy) messes them up. She is also a very skilled fighter, and can use just about any weapon in battle.
Another of Annabeth's main strengths is her ability to stay strong, mainly because she hates appearing weak and helpless. Only a few times in her life has she ever had a serious break down that brought the need for comfort, and that is something she is quite proud of. Streaming from this strength is also the ability to move on with life, even after living through the traumatic and damaging experiences she has lived through over the years; it's something that takes a lot of inner emotional strength and is not easy for most people.
Another of Annabeth's strengths is her kind heart; she is an extremely unselfish individual who always thinks of others before herself. She is always there to comfort someone in need and always offers a shoulder to cry on. She would do anything to help a loved one and keep them from harm, even if it means hurting herself. She also tries to see the good in everyone, unless a person has already proved to her that they have no good in them whatsoever.
Loyalty is another one of Annabeth’s strengths. Her friends and family mean the world to her, and she would never do anything to hurt any of them. She would do anything for a friend, and will do whatever it takes to make sure that nobody puts them down. She is also very loyal to things that her beliefs and her values, and always stays true to herself. Her philosophy is that if someone cannot accept her for who she is, then that person was not meant to be in her life anyway. She refuses to change herself to please others, and if they don't like it, then too bad. Living with six brothers, and living through the experiences that she has, has made her learn how to sort out those who should be in her life from those who don't deserve to be.
She is also very brave and courageous, displayed by the many times that she stood up against danger and evil, even when she didn’t think she’d have a chance. She was raised to never let fear stand in the way of achieving her dreams and goals, and she has stuck by that for her entire life.
WEAKNESSES: Despite her many strengths, Annabeth's main weakness is her pride - which is also her fatal flaw. She believes that she can do anything and everything: get her parents back together, build great monuments, and bring Luke back to the good side. She sometimes even thinks that she can re-build the entire world and make it even better than the Gods did.
Despite her kind and generous nature, Annabeth can also express a slight temper when she is in a situation that she either does not like, or if she is annoyed or irritated. In those kind of situations, she tends to lash out and snap at anyone that is unfortunate enough to cross her path. She also has a tendency to be brutally honest when dealing with people she likes and dislikes. If she dislikes someone or something, she won’t hesitate to express her dislike, and that can sometimes get her into trouble.
Another of Annabeth's weaknesses is her naivety, and how trusting she can be of people. It is because of her belief that there is some good in everyone that sometimes makes her an easy target, and makes her believe that she can save Luke and make him his old self again. She is also unable to find it in herself to forgive someone easily once she feels that she has been personally hurt; there have been countless times when Percy, or one of her other friends, has done something to upset her, and she's gone days without speaking to them because of the relenting anger or sadness she feels towards them. Her strengths are often hindered by this, and it sometimes poisons her otherwise rational thoughts.
DREAMS: Annabeth dreams of living a long, full and happy life free of the threats that she's lived through so far.
FEARS:
- Spiders
- Losing a loved one
- The future
FATAL FLAW: hubris, also known as deadly pride.
PREFERED WEAPON: her bronze knife, given to her by Luke Castellan when she was seven years old.
ABILITIES:
- Intelligence; because her mother is the Goddess of Wisdom, Annabeth was born with a very high IQ, and often surprises people with how knowledgeable she is.
- Natural skill with weapons; Annabeth's best weapon is her bronze knife, though she's inherited skills with all types of weapons.
- Battle strategy; Because her mother is the goddess of wisdom and battle strategy, Annabeth can quickly come up with effective plans for battle and have them work exactly how she wants them too.
ANYTHING ELSE: Annabeth Chase is a forceful and independent young lady, who is both energetic and lively. Anyone who has known her for a long period of time, and even those who haven’t known her long at all, can see that she is a very spirited, intelligent young lady. Under the guidance of her father, and the counsellors at Camp Half-Blood, Annabeth has grown into a fiercely loyal, passionate, intelligent, and unrelenting young woman. She is driven for success, and refuses to ever accept failure, which is where her fatal flaw –pride- comes from.
Being a daughter of Athena, Annabeth's life is guided solely on her gut instinct, beliefs, and love of her family and friends. She is willing and enthusiastic to jump into a battle at a moment's notice, or to drop whatever she is doing to ensure that someone she loves has a shoulder to cry on or someone to talk too. While her first instincts often come off as powerful, rash, and maybe a bit too strong, she has the rare ability to reign in her anger and power and focus on the needs of another. When the people in her life have a problem, she always listens whole heartedly, then proceeds to give out rather impressive and knowledge advice for someone so young. She is caring and compassionate by nature, just as she is a strong force in all other areas of life.
Many people find Annabeth a bit abrasive and cold, and truthfully she can be. She has no patience or desire to list off the details of her life, or to put up with people or situations that she has already decided she dislikes. Standing on neutral ground is a hard concept for her to grasp, along with any sort of idea that ultimately is different from her own. In her mind, her side is the only side and she will rarely bother to listen to those who feel differently; her will to stand up to anyone and everyone, whether friend or enemy also comes from this trait. Once she is angered it takes her a rather long time to either apologize or speak to the person in question in order to resolve the issues she has with him/her. She is one of those people who takes everything to heart, and finds it hard to trust people again once they have hurt her or broken her trust. She also tends to wear her heart on her sleeve, which sometimes makes her extremely vulnerable.

HISTORY:
Annabeth Elizabeth Chase was born to the Goddess Athena and mortal Professor of History, Frederick Chase. Frederick met Athena in college, which he was attending to study History. He was struggling quite a lot, and Athena volunteered as a study guide to help him get through the more difficult times during his college career, and in doing so, eventually fell in love with him. As a gift to him, Athena sent Annabeth - a literal brain child, formed from her mother's thoughts- to him on the west wind.
Annabeth's childhood, however, was not as happy as she would have liked. When she was five years old, her father met Cynthia, a mortal woman, and eventually married her. Together, the two had two sons, Bobby and Matthew, who Annabeth did her best to get along with. But, because she was a demi-god, Annabeth did not feel like she truly fit in wit her family. Her father was embarassed by her and her step-mother considered her a freak, one that she would not let her sons interact with if she could help it. So, after two years of feeling like an outcast, Annabeth ran away from home and vowed to never go back.
Once she left home, the now-seven year old thought that things would be easier, and life would become more enjoyable, but she was terribly wrong. For months, she was attacked by monsters with no knowledge of why they were attacking her constantly. It was only through the mental guidance of her mother that the little girl was able to get through all of the battles she came face to face with. At one point, she got so tired of being attacked that she hid herself in a trash can down a dark, deserted ally in the hopes of not being attacked again. Little did she know, however, that two older demi-gods -who were also on the run-had stumbled into the same ally. Hearing a noise, the two older demi-gods made their way towards Annabeth's hiding place, removing the lid and surprised by the small seven year old that jumped out and tried to attack them with a hammer. After introducing themselves as Luke Castellan and Thalia Grace, the two agreed to take the young child with them, and Luke vowed to never let any harm come to her ever again and even gave her his most prized possession in place of the hammer - his bronze knife. And together, the three went on the run, fighting monsters when the need arised and hiding out in various places along the East coast.
After a few more months, the trio ran into Grover Underwood, a satyr in training, that told them about Camp Half-Blood, a special camp for people like them. Instantly intrigued by the stories the satyr told them, the trio agreed to follow him there in hopes of finding out more about who they were. Unfortunately, the four of them took a few wrong turns along the way, and one of them happened to be right into the lair of a Cyclops, causing everyone but Annabeth to be captured and tied up. After noticing that she was still free, the Cyclops tried to persuade the young child to come to him by imitating her father's voice, but instead of falling for the trick, she used Luke's knife to stab it in the foot and managed to untie her friends, leaving them to deal with the rest.
Despite their quick escape, the capture had delayed the four quite a bit, allowing time for a pack of monsters sent by Hades to catch up to them. By the time they'd reached Half-Blood Hill, the monsters were gaining on them and the four began to panic, knowing that they would not be able to outrun them. Thinking quickly, Thalia said her goodbyes and told Luke, Annabeth and Grover to go ahead and leave the monsters to her. So, as Luke scooped her up into his arms and followed Grover into the safety of Camp Half-Blood, Annabeth looked behind her to see Thalia one last time and felt tears falling down her cheeks. Thalia had been morally wounded, but Zeus, taking pity on his daughter, turned her into a tree. It was that tree that became the magical barrier to keep monsters out and mortals from entering unless invited and made the camp safer for its inhabitants.
After three years of living and training at camp, Annabeth had grown comfortable with the routines and rituals of every day camp life. She had learned that she was a demi-god, a half-human, half-god and that her mother was Athena, Goddess of Wisdom and Battle Strategy. She had also learned how to use and control her inherited abilities, and had become one of the best fighters within the grounds. She had also gained a reputation as a very tough, intimidating and headstrong young woman, and she was fine with that. It was while she was visiting the Big House that she heard the Oracle's Great Prophecy, and had nightmares about it from then on. Every time a new camper came into the camp after that, Annabeth also couldn't keep herself from wondering if he or she was the one the Prophecy was talking about.
A year later, a boy named Percy Jackson was brought into the camp wounded from a Minotaur attack just outside the camp entrance. While recovering in the infirmary, Annabeth was the one that sat by his side, feeding him nectar and ambroisa to help him recover and regain his strength. Once he was back to himself and was released, however, Annabeth acted very hostile around him, especially after finding out that he was the son of Poseidon, her mother's biggest rival on Olympus. This is how the relationship between the two demi-gods progressed until word got to Annabeth that Percy was to go on a quest. Having always wanted one herself so that she could go out and explore the word now that she was more prepared, Annabeth wanted to go along, especially once the thought that Percy could be the child of the Prophecy entered her mind. So, a few days later she and Percy, along with Grover, set off to find Zeus's stolen lightning bolt, his most powerful weapon. Their first stop was Aunty M’s Garden Emporium, which they later discovered to be the lair of Medusa and only escaped from after Percy decapitated her. Their second stop was Las Vegas, and along the way they ran into the God Ares, who helped them get there. Once their, the three companions found themselves trapped in the Lotus Hotel and Casino, a place that was designed to make people who entered never want to leave. It wasn’t until Percy spoke to a person who had been there since the 1970’s that the three snapped out of their trance and escaped, leaving them only a few days to find the bolt before the winter solstice. From there, they travelled to Los Angeles to find the entrance to the Underworld and confront Hades about the stolen bolt. As they were interrogating Hades, however, the bold appeared in the bag that Ares had given to them, and it was slowly worked out that Ares was the one who had stolen the bolt, along with Hades’ Helm of Darkness. Annabeth and Grover stood back as Percy took on the God, eventually winning and taking back the bolt and the Helm. It wasn’t until that battle was over that the three found out about Luke Castellan’s betrayal and how he had been the one to originally steal the two items, which were in turn stolen from him by Ares. But, after everything, the Master Bolt was returned and everything seemed well again, except for Annabeth’s heart, which had broken the moment she found out about Luke’s betrayal.
A year later, after leaving camp for the winter for the first time since she’d originally arrived, Annabeth returned to Camp Half-Blood, still hurt by Luke’s betrayal but excited for the summer to begin. Wanting to try and be friends after seeing how good of a team they made during the previous year, Percy suggested that the two put their differences aside, and Annabeth agreed. However, upon returning to camp, the campers were met by many worried faces and were told about how Thalia’s tree had been poisoned and monsters were now able to come into the grounds. Because of that, another quest was given to Clarisse LaRue, a daughter of Ares, that called for her to travel to the Sea of Monsters and find the Golden Fleece; it was the only way to heal Thalia’s tree and re-seal the barriers. Another goal of the quest was to rescue Grover, who had been taken prison by the Cyclops Polyphemus, who was using the Golden Fleece to lure unsuspecting travellers into his cave. Despite not being included in the quest, Percy, Annabeth and Percy’s half-brother Tyson went along as well. After suffering through an explosion that destroyed their ship and escaping from the Sirens, Annabeth’s feelings for Percy slowly begin to emerge, though she chooses to ignore them. Once they’d gotten to the island where Polyphemus was holding Grover the Fleece, Annabeth and Percy came up with a clever plan, eventually rejoining with Clarisse, to get both safely off the island and ventured back to Camp to heal Thalia’s tree. Upon arrival back at camp, Annabeth and Percy teamed up to win the camp’s chariot race and following their victory, Annabeth’s calm façade slightly faded and she kissed Percy on the cheek to congratulate him. It was also at this time that, while standing on guard beside Thalia's tree watching over the Golden Fleece that Thalia was brought back into her human body, returned to the world, surprising Annabeth and everyone else who witnessed the event.
The following year, Annabeth, Percy, and Thalia were sent to a military boarding school to retrieve Bianca and Nico Di Angel, a brother and sister who had been identified as demi-gods by Grover, who had been placed there to protect them. The mission was going well, until the principal of the school was discovered to be a Manticore, who tried very hard to kill Percy once he'd split from Annabeth, Thalia and Grover. Eventually, the battle was brought outside and wit the help of Artemis and her Hunters, the Manticore was thrown over the cliff; the only problem was that Annabeth was thrown over as well. Thinking that she was dead, her friends returned to camp with heavy hearts, bringing the Hunters and the Di Angelo siblings with them. In a dream, Percy saw her on a mountain, kidnapped by the Manticore and tricked into holding up a big dark thing (Percy didn't know that it was the sky) thanks to feeling sorry for Luke holding the burden. This is later used to trick Artemis, who was also kidnapped, to take it from Annabeth. It's thanks to that dream that Percy knew that Annabeth was alive and needed to be rescued, along with Artemis. So, in order to do this, Percy, Thalia, Bianca Di Angelo (now a Hunter), and Zoe Nightshade (the Hunter lieutenant) set off to save their loved ones. Though both Zoe and Bianca were killed during the quest, both Annabeth and Artemis were saved, and from that day on, Annabeth vowed to never take her life, or the people in it, for granted.
When she turned fifteen, Annabetha returned to camp after spending the winter months away once again, and is teamed up with Percy during the annual summer capture the flag. It's during the game, when the two are trekking through the forest to find people of the opposite team. While running, they fell into a hole, which Annabeth identified as an entrance to the Labyrinth. Upon realizing this, Annabeth seized Percy's hand and found the way out, returning to camp to find that they had been gone for an hour even though it only felt like a few minutes. She also realized that it was a possible way for Luke and his army to get into Camp, a thought that terrified her and caused her to go and report it to Chiron. This lead to another quest, which Annabeth got the opportunity to lead, that involved going into the Labyrinth. Accompanied by Percy, Tyson and Grover, Annabeth descended into the depths of the Labyrinth in order to find a way to stop Luke and Kronos by means of its creator, Daedalus. The Prophecy she was given before leaving scared her a bit, and she refused to reveal the last line of it to to Percy, who asked her constantly during the duration of their quest but she still lead the quest headstrong. As they headed towards Hephaestus' forge in Mount St. Helens, the group find telekhines there making a weapon for Kronos and are outnumbered. Stepping up to the plate, Percy told Annabeth to escape while she could and she kissed him for luck before they part ways. Annabeth believed that he died when the mountain erupted, but that was not the case, much to her happiness. However, the alternative did not please her much either since he spent time on an island with Calypso. After all of that, Percy asked his mortal friend, Rachel Elizabeth Dare, a girl who can see through the Mist to help them through the Labyrinth. That also did not help Annabeth's jealousy, especially after seeing how close the two are getting. As they journey back into the Labyrinth, they find out that Luke has become Kronos' vessel, though Annabeth refused to believe that he was actually all bad. After fulfilling their mission, Annabeth finally tells Percy the last line of her prophecy, "To lose a love to worse than death," and leaves herself confused about whether it's referring to Luke or Percy.
After that, Annabeth returned to Camp to see that Percy had not returned yet. A few days later, she received a call from him asking her to meet him at the Empire State Building with all of the demi-gods at Camp. When she arrives, the two travel up the elevator to Olympus, where they met with Hermes, who instantly began to blame Annabeth for not being able to save Luke. Though clearly upset and shaken up at the harsh words, she tried to keep her head in the game and returns to the bottom of the Empire State Building to help her fellow demi-gods defend the city from the invading Titans and their army. During battle, Ethan Nakamura attempted to stab Percy in the small of his back, his Achilles spot, and Annabeth jumped in front of him, taking the knife. After a few hours of rest, Annabeth, though still weak from the poison, went back into battle. Kronos got to Olympus, and Grover, Thalia, Percy, and Annabeth followed him. Kronos attacked Percy, and Annabeth joined the fight, but was incapacitated when Kronos slammed her into her mother's throne. In the end, she saved Percy and Olympus by finally realizing the prophecy's true meaning, which was that Luke had to be the one to stop the Titan King. She convinced Percy to give Luke the bronze knife once he was able to escape from Kronos' hold on him and once he had it, Luke stabbed himself, banished Kronos to Tartarus yet again, and broke Annabeth's heart even more. After the battle, Annabeth was approached by Artemis about joining the Hunters, but the look on Percy's face was enough to stop her, leaving Thalia to join and become the new lieutenant.
Now, as the summer begins, Annabeth hopes to have some time to settle down and enjoy her life after so many years of nothing but fear, tension and fighting. But, as Percy told her before last summer ended, it wouldn't be Camp Half-Blood if it was peaceful.
YOU'RE NOT A JUDGE BUT
IF YOU'RE GONNA JUDGE ME
ROLE-PAY SAMPLE:
To say that Annabeth felt safe again within the borders Camp Half-Blood was a bit untrue. The fact that Thalia’s tree had been poisoned once before and deactivated the magic of the borders still wasn’t easy for her to grasp, and it made her feel like it could happen again without warning. There had also been the incident when the Labyrinth had an entrance inside the camp that allowed Luke and Kronos’ army to gain access into the camp and leave it in the state it was still recovering from now. That way for danger to enter, however, was less likely since the Labyrinth had been destroyed when Daedalus sacrificed himself to stop the Titans from attacking the camp any further. It had been quite the battle, as proven by the fact that they were still recovering from the aftermath. The anxiety she felt when she wasn’t near Percy didn’t help much either, but that was more complicated than the simple issue of feeling safe within the grounds after both those incidents, though so far the Golden Fleece was doing it’s job and keeping the borders in tact, making camp the safest place in the world for demi-gods once more. Plus, Annabeth was sure that Chiron, Mr. D and the rest of the Olympians had come up with some plans for increased security to prevent any more unnecessary deaths. That thought was comforting, at least, since fear was not something the campers who had been around the last few years wanted to spend their days being trapped behind all over again. That thought was also what kept her from scolding Percy for making his presence known the way he was, shouting at the top of his lungs in the training arena.
He was in the process of another loud attempt to locate her when he heard her voice, letting out the surprised squeak that she’d been waiting for. It made her shake her head in amusement, especially because she knew how much it embarrassed him when he was startled so much that the squeak escaped. She watched as he turned on his heel to face her, eyes wide with embarrassment and feign annoyance. His protests would have made anyone else jump and immediately apologize, but Annabeth was not that kind of person; she was the complete opposite, finding his discomfort amusing. Giving him a playful smile, the sixteen year old shrugged in response, waving off his protest. “It’s not my fault that you make yourself such an easy target,”
Giving him a playful smile, the sixteen year old shrugged in response, waving off his protest. “It’s not my fault that you make yourself such an easy target,”
His question had an obvious answer, one that he answered himself a few seconds later before she could say anything herself. His answer to his own question made her roll her eyes, thinking about how typical it was of him to say something like that; he was always so dramatic. He knew perfectly well that his swim in the River Styx last year had made him invincible, and she was pretty sure that invincibility counted when it came to heart attacks as well though she wasn’t positive. It was obvious to her that he was now trying to conceal his discomfort by rambling on, a nervous habit of his that she had picked up on a while back but he didn’t know she knew about. She was going to remind him not to say Zeus’ name, then remembered that it was only when it was included in a sentence accompanied by an insult that the Gods took offence to their names being said aloud. So instead, she just looked at Percy and gave him a confused look. “Gods, Percy. I don’t think I’ve ever heard you ramble on so much; are you okay?” she questioned, now genuinely concerned about his sanity. She was speaking the truth when she said she’d never heard him ramble so much, and she was beginning to think that maybe he’d been possessed, or was on the verge of a mental break down. The other option was that he was hyped on a sugar, but that seemed out of the question. “Ok, so it’s important. What’s going on?” she demanded, feeling completely lost and not enjoying it.
His answer never came, however, and she watched as he calmed himself down then walked towards her, closing the gap between them. For a moment, she thought that he was going to fill her in, but instead, he reached out and took her hand, which she automatically turned her focus on. Before she could repeat her question, he made a request and she looked back up, focusing her gray eyes on his deep blue ones. She had no idea what was going on but now that he was staring into her eyes, she could tell that whatever it was, it was serious. He hadn’t been kidding, and whatever he needed to say was something that he didn't want others to hear. The way he worded his request sent alarm shooting up and down Annabeth's spine, but before she could say anything, he had gripped her hand tighter and started to lead her away from the training field. “Uh...alright.” Her concern kept growing, but she said nothing, deciding it was better to just let him say what he needed to say. So instead, she just fell silent after that and let him lead her away, hoping to the Gods that he wasn’t going to tell her what she thought he was going too.
